Located at the heart of Limerick City, the Milk Market has existed since the 1840's and was restored as an open air market in 1985 to 1993.
To develop the market from a Saturday morning event to achieving the ability to have a market all week along with the space being used for other events, our design solution involved the creation of a tensile structure which provided cover for the courtyard while still retaining the essential outdoor atmosphere. The erected structure does not come in contact with the existing Market buildings and City Wall (located underground) both of which are protected. The canopy has been successful in keeping the rain out and sound in.
