In consideration of building design and how the new building forms to attach itself to the existing building and integrate with the existing circulation structure, the design team have developed a solution which reflects the practicalities and challenges the project created.
In this regard the design team has worked carefully in order to advance a beneficial design with Southerly directed classrooms and Easterly orientated practical rooms (such as the PE hall) in order to achieve the best possible solar gain.
Phase 1 of the school building has also been designed in accordance with Part L requirement as issued by the Department to the Environment with enhanced insulation levels being proposed as part of this development. It is further noted that the advancement of the design also considers heat zoning within the existing buildings along a north/south divide. Classrooms and rooms generally facing the Northern aspect of the site are controlled separately to those orientated towards the South.
